Kunjapuri is located at an elevation of 1676 metres. This temple is a well knoewn place for spiritual peaople. One can sit here and do meditation. This is around 26 km/ 1 hour drive from Rishikesh. During Navratri and Dusehra festival a grand celebration held at the Temple every year. There are 80 Steps from road to the Shrine. The people or priest of the Temple are Bhandari’s.

According to Hindu mythology the father of goddess Sati was not pleased when Sati got married to Lord Shiva. He organised a Yagya and didn’t invite his daughter and lord Shiva. Sati got angry and jumped into the fire. . When Shiva came to know this he ruin the Yagya. Lord Shiva was humiliated by Sati’s father in public. When Shiva was carrying the dead body of Sati, the burned chest had fallen down in Kunjapuri temple. This is one of the 3 Shaktipeethas in Tehri District. Two others are Surkanda Devi & Chandrabadni Devi Temple.

You can come down and can see the view of Rishikesh and Doon valley doing hiking around 9 km which will take you to the waterfall near Rishikesh. the sound of beautiful waterfall takes you a natural world on this one-day hiking.
